Miss Ashley Update
As many of you know, in November I suddenly became very sick and was shockingly diagnosed with colon cancer. What followed was a series of surgeries and chemotherapy (which officially ends May 2). For the next few weeks, I get to let my body rest, heal, and strengthen before additional surgeries. Although it has been far from easy, I still get to praise my God for my incredible family, friends, church, volunteers that have stepped in and up to keep Kid Min going, for the countless prayers, encouraging notes, and meals from everyone, for His incredible love and a good prognosis.
I plan to be around as much as I can to connect, catch up, and plan ahead before the next medical steps are taken.
Thank you all for your love and support!
HELP!!
ALL our kid classrooms need volunteers this summer! Would you consider joining us by rocking babies, playing with toddlers, reading a story to preschoolers, doing a craft or playing a game with younger or older elementary kids?
Summer programming is only 8 Sundays June-July (off July 6). Childcare volunteers are still needed on Family Sundays for a less structured time with kids 4-years-old and younger. Family Sundays are Memorial Day weekend, July 6, August, and Labor Day weekend.
Ask your child’s teacher about how fun and rewarding it can be. The school year volunteers are incredible and are looking forward to a much-needed summer break so they can be refreshed and ready to return in the fall!
Complete this form and background check and return it to Ashley or Caleb. Reach out to either of us with any questions.
Wednesday Night Community
Your kids are not going to want to miss these last four weeks of WNC! I know “May-cember” can get a little hectic, but these four fun-filled weeks will be worth it and a great time to bring a friend or two!
Each week will begin with a service project of making a snack cart to thank Oakwood delivery drivers. Kids will make notes, cards, pictures, and stickers. Here is the list of snacks the kids brainstormed.
After that all kids will fellowship while doing one of the following:
- Stained Glass Sidewalk Chalk (outside)
- Movie Night(s) (indoors)
- Inflatable and gym time (indoors- socks needed)
- Outdoor Playtime on the playground/baseball field (outside)
This week we are planning to be outside with chalk, but if the rain moves in or it is below about 50 degrees, we will stay indoors to watch a movie. Please dress your child appropriately – layers are best and know we may get a little messy.
The activity for the night will be based on the weather and may need to change at the last minute.
Sunday Programming | May 4
Kids will learn about when God used Deborah to lead Israel in victory over their enemies, and God received the glory. God sent Jesus to reign victorious over sin and death. Jesus is worthy of all honor, glory, and power.
Mr. David Smith and the volunteers are also practicing a song to share with everyone on Mother’s Day.
Offering Update
On Sunday, April 27, kids gave $15.02 to offering! We've reached our Global Fingerprints goal of $390, so $6.06 of the offering will go to our next project, Royal Family Kids Camp.
True North Kids Summer Day Camp
Registration is open for Oakwood's "True North" Kids Summer Day Camp! Back this year are the half-day preschool option and the opportunity to bring a non-Oakwood friend for free! Kids will spend a fun day learning how to trust Jesus in a wild world.
