Wisdom is Calling

by Scott Walker on August 18, 2021

As we have the opportunity to pray with others about their needs, we may sometimes feel uncertain where to begin or how to pray about a situation. It is in these moments when we desire the wisdom of God. Indeed, we should seek and listen to the Spirit of God for such wisdom. You may think there isn’t time in the moment for such pursuits, but listen to these words from Proverbs 8, which personify wisdom in this way:

Does not wisdom call? Does not understanding raise her voice? On the heights beside the way, at the crossroads she takes her stand; beside the gates in front of the town, at the entrance of the portals she cries aloud: “To you, O men, I call, and my cry is to the children of man. O simple ones, learn prudence; O fools, learn sense. Hear, for I will speak noble things, and from my lips will come what is right, for my mouth will utter truth; wickedness is an abomination to my lips. All the words of my mouth are righteous; there is nothing twisted or crooked in them. -Proverbs 8:1-8 (ESV)

Notice how wisdom is calling out to us to be heard. God is not hiding His wisdom from us, but on the contrary, He is making it plainly known and obvious whenever we find ourselves in a quandary. He knows when we will need wisdom and He makes it readily available in the moment, if only we will seek it.

May we be encouraged and emboldened in knowing that the wisdom of God goes before us, and the words we pray will be empowered by His Spirit when we seek Him.
