Vigilant Prayer

by Scott Walker on December 01, 2021

With Pastor Roger announcing his retirement, we find ourselves entering a season of transition. There is undoubtedly some anxiety, excitement, and eagerness to see who God has in store for us as our next lead pastor. Because of that, we must be especially vigilant in prayer during this season. The enemy will seek to distract our attention and ultimately divide us if we do not remain focused upon the Lord.

Let us heed this warning from Scripture, related to the return of Christ:

“Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”  Matthew 24:42–44

As the thief comes in the night, let us not be caught unaware and be robbed of the blessing the Lord has planned for Oakwood. Let us guard against all distractions that might take our eyes off Jesus and cause our hearts and minds to wander astray. We must dedicate ourselves in prayer and communion with the Lord to discern with wisdom His plans for Oakwood.

Let us, therefore, remain vigilant in prayer and keep our focus on our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We know and trust that the Lord has carefully selected our future interim pastor. Let us pray that he may be a blessing to Oakwood and aid us in our discernment of who God has prepared and chosen to be our next lead pastor. Let us lift our hearts in prayer to the Lord that He might continue the work He has begun and unite us together with the lead pastor He has prepared for Oakwood. Truly, all glory and honor belong to our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!

Let’s pray and live for His glory!
