Letting the Holy Spirit Lead

by Scott Walker on June 24, 2021

If you have ever found yourself at a loss for words, not knowing what to pray for, you are not alone. I’ve had my share of awkward moments in which I felt at a loss for direction on how to pray.

In one case, I was asked to pray for someone’s requests scribbled on a bulletin, which were completely incoherent to me. On another occasion, I was asked to pray with someone who didn’t offer any specific prayer request at all, but just wanted me to pray for whatever came to mind.

All too often we neglect to listen for the guidance of the Holy Spirit, either because we freeze in the moment or we are too consumed with our own thoughts to listen for His voice. It’s moments like these when we must truly seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And He who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.” Romans 8:26-27

What an amazing resource the Holy Spirit is for each of us to depend on! He is always with us and ever ready to step into any situation we might face.

When we stand ready to pray for others, let us remember to listen for the voice of the Holy Spirit to guide us. Friends, may we be encouraged and strengthened in the knowledge that the Holy Spirit is with us always.
