Drowning in Doubt

They were friends. A somewhat new relationship. One of the friends was more kind and loving than the other, and the second noticed. He got angry when he saw his friend treating others better, others who he thought didn’t deserve it.

Sometimes the friend would disappear, unable to connect when he needed someone to talk to. His trust began to waiver. He loved his friend, but he didn’t understand and he was mad.

Does this sound familiar? It’s the story of Simon Peter and Jesus’ relationship before Jesus walks on water—which is beautifully depicted in The Chosen, season 3 episode 8.

“’Lord, if it’s you,’ Peter replied, ‘tell me to come to You on the water.’

‘Come,’ He said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’

Immediately, Jesus reached out His hand and caught him.

‘You of little faith,’ He said, ‘why did you doubt?’”

-Matthew 13:28-31

How good is God that He saved Simon Peter, despite his doubt?

Perhaps this story of friendship sounds familiar to you because you’ve experienced a relationship like this in your life. This happened more than 2,000 years ago, yet it’s relevant today!

What relationship are you doubting that you need to turn over to Jesus?

"'Come to Me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light’” - Matthew 11:28-30
