Students: Week of Nov. 25, 2024

by Caleb Garnett on November 25, 2024

Sunday Morning Programming
This Sunday, Dec. 1, we will be continuing through “The Thread” series this week. Last week, we talked about Paul’s letter to the Colossian church, and this week, we will be diving into a different letter. We will be talking about 1 Peter, which was written by Peter to a group of Christians struggling with persecution under Roman emperor Nero. Students will be encouraged to remember that their lives point to something greater than themselves. They have been called by Jesus to point other to him, even in the midst of difficult circumstances. A parent letter is here for more information!

Wednesday Night Community
Wednesday Night Community is finished for this calendar year. We will resume meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 15. We will be kicking off with a series titled “Firm Foundation” where we will seek to answer questions like, "Why we can trust the Bible" and, "How do we know that Jesus was who he said he was?" I can’t wait to see all of your students again in the New Year!

Middle School Gathering
The next middle school gathering at the Feder’s is happening Saturday, Dec. 7, from 6:30 - 8 p.m. The date was changed in light of the Women’s Christmas Event on Dec. 6. This is a great opportunity for our middle school students to build relationships, have fun, and ask great spiritual questions. Pizza and snacks will be provided. You can find Pat and Jeanene's address in our app.

Christmas Party
OSM is hosting a Christmas party for our students on Sunday, Dec. 8, from 5 - 7 p.m.! We'll have food, games, an ugly sweater contest, and a white elephant gift exchange. For the gift exchange, students are welcome to bring something from home—it doesn’t have to be new! If you prefer to purchase a gift, we ask that it be under $20 to keep things simple and fair. We’re excited to celebrate the season together and look forward to seeing your students there! Pizza and drinks will be provided, so please RSVP your student here so that we know how much to get, thank you!

Reverse Caroling
Join us on Dec. 14 from 3 – 6 p.m. for Reverse Caroling at Oakwood! We'll have stations set up around the parking lot, each sharing part of the Christmas story through song. Oakwood Student Ministry is in charge of the station sharing the story of Jesus' birth. Some students have already signed up, but if your student would like to participate, please email me at so we can include them in the plans for the day!

Consent Forms
We kindly ask that you fill out a form for each student in your family. These forms are essential for the safety and protection of both the church and your student, particularly for off-site events like Fall Fest, Districts, mission trips, and more.
You can find the link to the consent form here.
