Wednesday Night Update
What a wonderful week we had last Wednesday! OSM is off and running. Last week the youth who went to Districts were given an opportunity to share the wonderful work Jesus did in their lives during their time in Green Bay. Instead of a chalk talk, we worshiped and then opened the mic for testimonies from Districts and the ways each student experienced God two weekends ago. They were encouraged to practice giving testimony of their faith to their supportive and encouraging peers and leaders, so that when they have the chance to share the Gospel outside of youth group, they have practice speaking boldly and clearly about their faith. It was fantastic and we heard from nearly everyone who went to Districts!
This week we will begin looking at the parables of Jesus, as well as some of the attributes of God. Each week will cover 1-2 parables as well as one attribute of God. The questions about these topics will focus on getting to know how Jesus told stories and how the story of Jesus leads and guides us to knowing God and his character more fully. Much of what is presented comes from various resources found on RightNow Media, as well as A.W. Tozer’s two-volume work on the attributes of God.
The parable this week, the seeds and the sower, is found in Matthew, Mark, and Luke, and Jesus interprets it. The youth will gain understanding in how to rightly divide word and truth, and look how Jesus meant the parable to be understood. Then they will have an opportunity to apply that principle to their discussion in small groups and understanding of this parable. They will also be learning about God’s faithfulness.
We are still welcoming weekly volunteers. There is one more mandatory training coming up shortly for those who have not yet attended. Any week in which we are blessed with an overabundance of volunteers, those “extra” adults will spend time praying over youth prayer requests. Our youth volunteers will support your students through a dedicated prayer time each Wednesday night and throughout the week.
