Students: Week of April 8, 2024

by Chris Schmidt on April 08, 2024

Hello OSM Parents,

Here are some updates to OSM:

Youth Pastor Update

The Youth Pastor Search continues to move forward. We have had about 10 applicants and have now had interviews with 3 candidates. We will continue to take applications throughout the process and information on the posting can be found here. We will begin the next phase shortly where we will be moving our first candidate into the next phase that includes an opportunity to explore some further thoughts and beliefs through a questionnaire. After evaluating that, we will move into the next phase, an interview with the whole team.

We continue to ask for prayer for God to show us the right person for this role, patience in the process, and unity as a team moving forward. We thank you for your continued prayers over this important role at Oakwood.

Wednesday Night Community April 10
6:30-8 p.m.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Middle School students will be meeting in the Upper Level Youth Room and will go through NUA. This is a Right Now Media series and the leaders guide and videos are available here: https://app.rightnowmedia.org/en/content/details/265320. Here is the session six summary: Here is the session six summary: Lots of people wonder how God could allow so much evil in the world. You see, humans have been given the ability to love—and love is what makes suffering possible. Choosing to love makes life meaningful, but as a result, we also have to deal with the consequences of people choosing not to love. The story of Jesus is one of a God who came into the world and experienced our pain. The Bible tells us that he wept, but instead of looking for someone to blame, Jesus asked what God could do. Christianity doesn’t try to explain suffering, but Jesus invites us to respond to it. Following Jesus doesn’t mean that we will never suffer, but the Bible does promise that suffering will end someday (Revelation 21:4). Until then, we can find opportunities to serve those in need.

HIGH SCHOOL

For the rest of WNC, the High School students will be diving into the Book of Colossians. They will be studying a section of Scripture each week and having a group discussion on the topic. The High Schoolers will continue to meet in the lower level youth room at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday nights.

Sunday Morning April 14

We are continuing on through The Thread series. This week we will be covering Nehemiah and Rebuilding and you can find a parent letter linked here. Please use the handout to walk through some questions with your student after the lesson.

Jay Seegert Will Discuss Scientific Evidence for the Inspiration of the Bible
Wednesday, May 1 | 6:30 - 8 p.m.

Jay Seegert is an international speaker and author who has been speaking on the Authority of Scripture for over 36 years. He has spoken at Districts, No Regrets, and many other events where you may have heard him.

Everything we believe as Christians rests on the assumption that the Bible is actually the inspired, error-free Word of God… but how do we know that? It's not politically correct to believe the Bible alone is the inspired Word of God and most Christians cannot defend this belief. Are we to exercise blind faith, or is there a great body of evidence supporting this crucial point? This topic presents incredible scientific evidence showing beyond doubt that the Bible is truly the inspired Word of God!
