Students: Week of April 15, 2024

by Chris Schmidt on April 15, 2024

Hello OSM Parents,

Here are some updates to OSM:

Wednesday Night Community April 17
6:30-8 p.m.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Middle School students will be meeting in the Upper Level Youth Room and will go through NUA. This is a Right Now Media series and the leaders guide and videos are available here: https://app.rightnowmedia.org/en/content/details/265320. Here is the session eight summary: Genesis 1 is a confusing story. Should it be taken literally? Or is it poetry? Either way, we can learn from Adam and Eve today: their shame and brokenness is something we can all relate to. We are made in God’s image and God is all about relationship. Jesus coming to earth as a baby was God reaching out to us—he could have shown up any way he wanted, but he chose to live a life of hardship as he built relationships and loved the outcast. While other religious ideas seem to focus on how to keep God happy, the story of Jesus is about the lengths that God will go to get to us. Jesus conquered death to bring freedom from sin and suffering. The world tells us we need to change in order to be good enough. Jesus came to forgive us and set us free.

HIGH SCHOOL

For the rest of WNC the High School students will enjoy some games and fun outside (weather permitting) for the last typical study for the group. Students are bringing a treat to share with the group and leaders are bringing a drink to share. Next week, MS and HS will join together to hear from some Oakwood Sponsored partners.

Sunday Morning April 21

We are continuing on through The Thread series. This week we will be covering Messianic Prophecy from Isaiah, and you can find a parent letter linked here. Please use the handout to walk through some questions with your student after the lesson.

Jay Seegert Will Discuss Scientific Evidence for the Inspiration of the Bible
Wednesday, May 1 | 6:30 - 8 p.m.

Jay Seegert is an international speaker and author who has been speaking on the Authority of Scripture for over 36 years. He has spoken at Districts, No Regrets, and many other events where you may have heard him.

Everything we believe as Christians rests on the assumption that the Bible is actually the inspired, error-free Word of God… but how do we know that? It's not politically correct to believe the Bible alone is the inspired Word of God and most Christians cannot defend this belief. Are we to exercise blind faith, or is there a great body of evidence supporting this crucial point? This topic presents incredible scientific evidence showing beyond doubt that the Bible is truly the inspired Word of God!
