Kid’s Ministry is back in full swing on Sundays and Wednesdays, and I am excited to be kicking off 2024 with a new coworker. Seth Smith joined the Kid’s Ministry team as Kid’s Ministry Coordinator. His teaching degree and years of experience leading Camp Vertical and volunteering at Oakwood will be a great blessing! Seth will coordinate WNC and help with other events and activities. Please introduce yourselves and pray for him as he starts this new role.
Wednesday, Jan. 10
“Hey God” starts this week for preschool-5th graders. In this 5-week series, kids will learn that they can (and should) talk to God anywhere, anytime, about anything, and in any way. To start, kids will learn about the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6:5-15. Take time this week to read that prayer with your kids and talk through each sentence together. Each week kids will work on their own prayer journals. These journals will stay at church during the series.
Wednesday nights needs a few more adult volunteers – one adult to help in the gym with games and one to help in small group. Both roles are for the K-5th graders and require very, very little prep (reading through the weekly email plans to be familiar with the plan). Connect with Seth or Ashley if you feel like this would be a good fit!
Sunday, Jan. 14
On Sunday, volunteers will teach from Acts 2 when the Holy Spirit came to help the disciples spread the Good News of Jesus. During the week, read Acts 2 and use the questions and activity from Gospel Project below to help kids understand.
Offering Project
All monies collected Jan. 7 – March 24 will go towards Shepherd’s College in Union Grove, which is one of Oakwood’s Community Partners. Shepherd’s College helps people with intellectual and developmental disabilities discover their God-given potential in a uniquely designed learning environment. Check out this video to learn more about Shepherds College and keep an eye out for 4th & 5th grade volunteer Mr. Scott who works at Shepherd's College!
The goal is to collect $200 to help purchase kitchen items needed in the culinary arts program. Each week in large group, kids hear about the project and its purpose, and pray for it.
It is so much more than the dollars and cents. Offering is an act of worship.
