Students: Week of Nov. 18, 2024

by Caleb Garnett on November 18, 2024

Sunday Morning Programming
This Sunday, Sept. 15, student programming takes place during our 9 a.m. service. We will be continuing through “The Thread” series this week. Last week, we talked about Paul’s letter to the Romans, and this week, we will be discussing Paul’s letter to the Colossian church, where he touches on themes such as Thanksgiving, Christ’s supremacy, and putting to death our old selves. You can find a parent letter here for more information.

Wednesday Night Community
Our Wednesday night student program runs from 6:30 to 8 p.m. This time is an opportunity for students to build relationships with their peers and leaders, hear a message from God’s Word, and, of course, have a lot of fun!
It’s hard to believe, but we are in the final week of Wednesday Night Community for this calendar year! We will resume meeting after the New Year on Jan. 15.

This week, we’re diving into the final week of our series, Who Am I?, which explores our identity in Christ. Our main idea for this final week is that “You are a temple of the Holy Spirit” and our main scriptures are 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 and 2 Corinthians 3:16-18
We’ll be discussing with students how the temple was originally built to be God’s physical dwelling place with His people, the Israelites. Because of sin, God knew that this physical space was not the place that He would dwell forever. Because of this, He sent Jesus to fulfill His covenant, give us direct access to God, and make believers into the temple where God’s Spirit would dwell forever more. Students will be encouraged to live a life that reflects their new identity as the temple of the Holy Spirit, as someone who doesn’t belong to themself, but to God.
Middle School Gatherings
The next Middle School Gathering at the Feder’s is happening Saturday, Dec. 7, from 6:3 - 8 p.m. The date was changed to accommodate the Women’s Christmas Event on Dec. 6.
This is a great opportunity for our Middle School students to build relationships, have fun, and ask great spiritual questions. Pizza and snacks will be provided. Please RSVP to Pat Feder. Their address can be found in the Oakwood app.
Christmas Party
OSM is hosting a Christmas party for our students on Sunday, Dec. 8, from 5 to 7 p.m.! We'll have food, games, an ugly sweater contest, and a white elephant gift exchange. For the gift exchange, students are welcome to bring something from home—it doesn’t have to be new. If you prefer to purchase a gift, we ask that it be under $20 to keep things simple and fair. We’re excited to celebrate the season together and look forward to seeing your students there!

Reverse Caroling

Join us on Dec. 14 from 3 - 6 p.m. for Reverse Caroling at Oakwood! We'll have stations set up outside, each sharing part of the Christmas story through song. Our Student Ministry is in charge of the station sharing the story of Jesus' birth. Some students have already signed up, but if your student would like to participate, please email me at so we can include them in the plans for the day!
Consent Forms
We are well into the ministry year and we need completed consent forms for each student. If you haven't done so already, we kindly ask that you fill out a form for each student in your family. These forms are essential for the safety and protection of both the church and your student, particularly for off-site events like Fall Fest, Districts, mission trips, and more. You can find the link to the release form here.
