From Mr. Seth

Wednesday, March 13

Last week was the blue week for "Colors of Easter." Despite us being a couple weeks out from Good Friday, last week we focused on the arrest and death of Jesus. Particularly, we placed an emphasis on how Jesus and Barabbas were both offered to the people to be freed. The people chose to free Barabbas and crucify Jesus. This made the followers of Jesus sad, hence the color of the week. We talked a lot about the sacrifice that Jesus gave so Barabbas could go free, and our activities related to that theme. See the Family Life Facebook page for pictures about the kids helping free each other from either a cardboard jail, or a jail during capture the flag.

This week, we are focusing on something a little more upbeat. The theme of the week is YELLOW, and we will be focusing on the resurrection of Easter morning. The passage is Matthew 28:1-10. It begins with a few women going to the tomb to finish anointing the body, but instead they are met with cause for celebration. The yellow sun shines a bright light over all of creation, and today even we have a reason for great joy because Jesus is risen! Wear yellow this week to celebrate with us!

Kids will still focus on Isaiah 53:5 as this unit's Bible verse and will learn from Philippians 2. Yes, this is an Easter lesson! Yes, kids are chronologically learning through the Bible and have long since finished the gospel accounts of Jesus’ birth, death, and resurrection, but Jesus is woven throughout the Bible, and this week we get to see just that. Philippians 2 helps us better understand why Jesus became human.
