Kids: Week of Feb. 5, 2024

by Ashley Schmidt on February 05, 2024

Wednesday, Feb. 7

Last week kids learned about how they can talk to God at any time. It doesn't matter where you are or what you are doing because God can always hear your prayers. They also continued to write in their prayer journals and got to read a lot of the Bible during small group. After this week, kids will be able to take their prayer journals home, so be sure to ask them what they've been praying about all month.

This week we are concluding "Hey God," our first series of 2024. The last lesson is about being able to talk with God anywhere. We will learn about examples of places where Jesus prayed and even examples of great things that happen when other people pray for you. One of these stories comes from Acts 12:1-17 when Peter is freed from prison because his friends were praying together in their home which wasn't even close to the prison!

Stay tuned for more information on our next unit, and invite a friend to our Valentine's Day Party on Wednesday, Feb.14. Speaking of looking ahead, we are still looking for a few more adult volunteers to help us on Wednesday nights. Now would be the perfect time to join because we will be transitioning from one unit to another. We are specifically looking for one adult to help in the gym and one more to help during our small group discussion time. Both roles would assist with kids from kindergarten to 5th grade, and they require very little prep work. Please contact either or if you have any interest in serving with us!

Sunday, Feb. 11

When kids get an exciting birthday toy or find out about a fun playdate or upcoming trip, they want to tell everyone about it – family, friends, even the not-so-chatty cashier at the grocery store. Similarly, Paul tells others about Jesus and tells them to spread the Good Word too. On Sunday, kids will learn more about this and what Paul tells us in Romans 10. Use the ideas below to encourage thoughts and conversations about this during the week and consider who you will invite to an upcoming event.

Offering Project

Offering is so much more than money. It is an act of worship and an expression of our love for Jesus (Paul explains this in 2 Corinthians 8-9). Yes, kids are crushing the goal with less than $70 to go to reach our $200 goal, but they are also learning about God’s immense love for all people and that every single person was created with a purpose. Watch this video to see how Shepherds College can help fulfil that purpose for its students.
