Kids: Week of April 22, 2024

by Ashley Schmidt on April 22, 2024

Have you noticed the Family Life Resourse Board? This board, located in the upper level hallway near The Cafe, is filled with event cards that you can take for yourself and use to invite a friend. It also has free resourses for families. Right now you will find Emotion Wheels with Scriptures available to take. The Bible is filled with encouraging words no matter how we are feeling.

Wednesday, April 24

Last week in our "Upward" series, we learned about how we can help others on good days and bad, and God has given us gifts to help others. The story we learned this from was the story of Joseph who went from being in prison, to being in charge in prison, to being in charge of almost all of Egypt! While in prison, Joseph, through God's power, interpreted the dreams of two men, the baker and cupbearer of Pharaoh. The cupbearer got a good message, and the baker got a more disheartening message. A couple years later, the cupbearer (now out of jail) remembered Joseph after Pharaoh had a dream he didn't understand. Pharaoh calls Joseph out of jail to interpret, and after hearing what Joseph had to say, Pharaoh put him in charge of Egypt! Through this story, we learned that just like Joseph helped people by interpreting dreams (a skill given to him by God), we can also help people, no matter our situation, with the gifts God has given us.

This week is a little bittersweet because it's our last week of Wednesday Night Community for this school year, but it is also when we get to hear the end of Joseph's story. The conclusion to the story is found in Genesis 42:1-11 and Genesis 45:1-15. In these passages we get to see God make a happy ending out of all the suffering that Joseph has gone through over the course of his life. He gets to see his brothers and father again! A lot of other good things happen, and none of that would have been possible without God and the bad things Joseph lived through. For more details, read the passages linked above and bring a friend to our last WNC of the year!

Sunday, April 28

Sunday kids will be in Acts 12 and will learn more about when Peter was rescued from prison. Below are some discussion questions and an activity you can do at home this week (and beyond).

Offering Project | April 7 – May 19

The Esperanza Viva offering project is already at $78 towards our $200 goal. Below is a picture from a previous Oakwood mission trip to Esperanza Viva. Prayer is also an important and key part of all our offering projects. Can you and your kids be praying for these kids in Mexico and the team that is already preparing for their trip in June?
