Kids: Week of April 15, 2024

Wednesday April 10

Last week we continued to follow Joseph on his rollercoaster of a life. We started the night on a low point because Joseph had just gotten sold into slavery by his brothers, but then he got to a high point because his master, Potiphar, really liked him and his work. Potiphar knew that God was with Joseph, and that helped him get a promotion. Then there was an incident with Potiphar's wife and Joseph ended up in jail. Even in hard times like these, God was still with Joseph and that way we know that God will be with us too even when times get tough.

This week, we see Joseph start climbing the next big hill of the roller coaster. Even though he is having a rough time by being in prison, Joseph will help a lot of people in this portion of the story. He helps a couple other prisoners, and one of those prisoners then helps him back when Pharaoh had a problem. By the end of the story, Joseph is put in charge of Egypt with Pharaoh being the only person more powerful than him. To find out more details about how Joseph went from helpful prisoner to ruler, read the following passages in Genesis 40:1-8 and Genesis 41:1-41

Sunday April 14

If you’ve been around Oakwood for a bit, you probably know that the kids are slowly going through the Bible. In fall 2021, they started in Genesis, are currently in Acts, and will finish in Revelation this July. Mr. David Smith leads them in large group and part of large group is getting to worship. Mr. Smith always ties the songs into the lessons so well. Kids were recently introduced to a new song as a way to celebrate them getting (almost) all the way through the Bible plus it is a catchy tune that helps learn the order of the Bible and little tag line about each book. Kids will be singing this song in church on May 19. Please take some time to practice.

Sunday’s lesson continues in Acts when the first account of calling followers of Jesus “Christians.” Before this we see the words “Jews” and “Gentiles” in the scriptures. Do your kids know these terms? If not, take a few minutes to go over them together – maybe even see if they can find the scripture references.

Opportunities to Serve

Summer Programming is 8 weeks in June and July. Kids are learning chronologically through the Bible over the course of three years. This summer, kids will finish with Paul's Mission to Rome in Acts and The Church’s Hope in Revelation.

These 8 weeks are a great chance to try out serving in Kids Ministry and allow the school year volunteers time off to refresh. See details below and connect with Ashley.

Blessings!
