Have you ever been completed stunned when someone showed up somewhere that you hadn’t dared thought they would be? The reactions pretty much go like this:
Jaws drop.
Eyes fill with tears.
Heads shake in disbelief.
Arms open wide to urgently embrace.
Exclamations of “I don’t believe it… you came!!!!”
Like a parent shocked when a college kid unexpectedly comes through the door, or loved ones surprised by deployed soldiers walking into a room.
How much more awesomely delighted should we be when we consider the birth of Jesus Christ?
Delivered in the middle of a crowded town, the arrival impossibly fulling details foretold hundreds of years before surrounding the birth of Messiah, the Chosen One, the promised Redeemer, and Savior of All. Descendant of Abraham (Gen 22:17-18), in the lineage of King David (Jeremiah 33:14-17), born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14), in the city of Bethlehem (Micah 5:2). This infant about whom the angel proclaimed: “I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.” (Luke 2:10-11)
This Christmas, allow yourself to be stunned by the arrival. Let your jaw drop. Joyful tears can be shed. Marvel within your heart, “I don’t believe it… You came!”
