At Oakwood Church, we believe God is writing beautiful stories in the lives of people right here in our own community. And as we look back at this/last year through our Annual Report, we’re reminded again and again: God is at work. These are just a few glimpses of that work, shared by those who’ve experienced it firsthand.
Peace in the Midst of the Storm
Kim Wohead’s story is one of profound transformation. After beginning rehab in 2021, she found herself in a daily battle with anxiety and overwhelming emotions. But even in the struggle, she kept praying.
“For a year I prayed, and then—out of nowhere—He lifted the anxiety and emotional weight I had carried for so long. For the first time in my life, I felt true peace.”
God didn’t just lift the weight; He surrounded Kim with people who pointed her toward Him. One of those people invited her to Oakwood, and from the moment she stepped through the doors, she felt like she was home. That journey led to her baptism—an outward expression of an inward surrender.
“I am so grateful for the peace He has given me, for the community He has surrounded me with, and for the new life I’ve found in Him.”
A Space for the Next Generation
Ashley Schmidt saw God moving not just in her life, but in her daughter’s. At the Oakwood Women’s Conference, her teenage daughter got to be part of something specifically designed for her age group—and it made a difference.
“She was eager to use her new prayer journal and some of the practical techniques that the leaders shared. As a mom, having other Jesus-loving women pour into my child in intentional ways was a highlight of the conference for me.”
This is what we pray for: that the next generation is not only included but discipled. And that the seeds planted today will grow into lifelong faith.
Rooted in Gospel Community
Chris and Lisa Wenzler felt something different from the very first time they visited Oakwood—intentional connection.
“I remember people turning around and introducing themselves and approaching us after the service was over. We also love the great span of age groups at Oakwood. There are some very young families and some very tenured families. I think this adds to the richness of the congregation.”
They made the decision to be rooted in a local, gospel-centered community, and found that God had already prepared a place for them here.
“We both think it’s rare to have such a wonderful gospel-teaching church within just a couple minutes of where you lay your head at night.”
