Series Information
The Oxford Languages Dictionary defines DNA two ways. First is the scientific definition, which says, “A self-replicating material that is present in nearly all living organisms as the main constituent of chromosomes. It is the carrier of genetic information.” The idea of it being the carrier of what makes something distinct is captured in the second definition, which says, “The fundamental and distinctive characteristics or qualities of someone or something, especially when regarded as unchangeable.”
DNA is unique to each person. In a sense, it is what makes you, you. Churches also have a DNA (at least by the second definition). Just as God makes each person unique, God makes each local church unique and that uniqueness is something to celebrate. As we head into the new year together, we are starting a new tradition at Oakwood called “DNA Sundays.” On these Sundays we will explore a facet of our mission, values, and vision. During the first three Sundays of January 2025, we will dedicate one message to each of these facets to explore who we are as a church and where God is taking us.
