This Sunday: Israel Wants a King
We’re back this Sunday at 9 a.m. with student programming! We’ll be diving into 1 Samuel 8, where the time of the judges is coming to an end. As Samuel grows older, he appoints his sons as judges—but they are corrupt and do not follow the Lord. In response, the people of Israel ask for a king so they can be like the other nations. Samuel is troubled, but God tells him that the people are not rejecting Samuel—they're rejecting God as their king.
Today, we may not have literal kings, but we still give our loyalty to many things—social media, friends, sports, and more. These things can easily take God’s place in our hearts, and before we know it, we end up looking just like the world around us. This week, students will be challenged to put their trust in Jesus—the ultimate King who came to save us.
Wednesday Night Hangouts
Starting this week, join us for casual Wednesday night hangouts from 6:30 - 8 p.m. in the youth room! We’ll have games, fun, and time to relax together. If the weather’s nice, we’ll head outside for gaga ball, kickball, frisbee, and maybe a bonfire. If it’s not, we’ll keep the fun going indoors with cards, video games, and more. Bring a friend and come hang out—we’d love to see you there!
High School Bonfires
Starting this week, join us on Sunday nights from 6 - 8 p.m. at Oakwood for High School Bonfires. These nights will be laid-back and fun—a chance to hang out, roast s'mores, play games, and build deeper connections with one another.
Invite your friends and come ready for a great time around the fire!
*If anyone would be open to hosting one of these events at your home, please feel free to reach out and let me know!*
True North Kids Camp – CITs Needed!
Is your student looking for a fun and meaningful way to serve this summer? We have the perfect opportunity! Oakwood's True North Kids Summer Day Camp is happening on July 23 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and we’re looking for middle school and high school students to step up as CITs (Counselors in Training). CITs will help lead games, songs, special activities, and more—making it an exciting way to serve younger kids and grow as leaders. Lunch and snacks will be provided for all student volunteers. CIT applications are available in the High School Room or can be picked up from and returned to Pastor Caleb.
Middle School Gatherings
The final Middle School Gathering of the summer is at the Feders, happening Friday, June 6, from 6 - 8 p.m. This is a great opportunity for our middle school students to build relationships, have fun, and ask great spiritual questions. Food and snacks will be provided.
Board Game Night
Mark your calendars for June 20 from 5 – 9 p.m. and join us at the church for a night of games and fun! Bring your favorite board and card games—and don’t forget your competitive spirit. We’ll hang out, play games, enjoy some snacks, and have a bonfire! Invite your friends—we hope to see you there!
Join the Worship Team!
This year, we’ve introduced a time of worship into our Sunday morning and Wednesday evening gatherings, and we’d love for your students to be involved!
- Calling All Singers: Our most pressing need is for singers to help lead worship up front. If your student has a passion or talent for singing, please reach out to me at . We’d love to have them join the team!
- Musicians Welcome: We’re also looking for students who play instruments and want to use their talents to serve God through worship arts.
Thank you for encouraging your student to be part of this meaningful ministry. Together, we can make worship a powerful and impactful experience!
