Students: Week of March 9, 2026

by Caleb Garnett on March 09, 2026

This Sunday - Sackcloth and Dust

This week we will be diving back in to the Book of Nehemiah. The people of Israel have received the law from the prophet Ezra, and are now worshiping God and confessing their sins to Him. Our students will be encouraged to see how confession brings us freedom in our relationship with God.

Here are the Daily Discipleship Guide and Family Connection Page.

Wednesday Night | 6:30 - 8 p.m.

This week we are kicking off a new four-week series called, "The Last Words of Jesus." We'll look at three stories that recount the final words Jesus offered before His crucifixion, and one where Jesus shared His final instructions to His disciples (and us!) before ascending into Heaven.

Series Overview

This series challenges students to ask themselves how they might apply the last words of Jesus to their lives today.

Session 1: "My God, My God, why have you abandoned me?"

Big Idea: Even in tough times, God is always with you

Question for Discussion: What are some situations when someone your age might need to be reassured that God is always with them?

Baptism Class

We are offering a baptism class on Sunday, March 15, at 10:30 a.m. for students interested in baptism. This class is for students who want to be baptized or simply want to learn more about baptism. The next baptisms at Oakwood are on Easter Sunday, April 5. If a student is interested in this class, please sign up here.

Lake Country Throwdown

We are excited to team up with Lake Country Youth Collective to bring you the Lake Country Throwdown! This is a dodgeball tournament open to all students in grades 6-12. Gather your team and register here. Prizes will be awarded for best dressed team and, of course, our champions! Food will also be provided, along with alternative games and entertainment for those who don't want to play dodgeball.

When: April 10, 6 - 9 p.m.

Where: Oakwood Church

Day of Global Youth Evangelism

On March 21, from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m., we will be gathering at Oakwood for evangelism training. This is a video training from Dare 2 Share ministries. Students will hear from guest speakers and will get the chance to practice sharing the gospel. I encourage every student to attend and learn how to effectively share the Good News of Jesus with their peers. Donuts and drinks will be provided.
