Jesus Gives Us a Job to Do
(Great Commission & Ascension—Matthew 29, Luke 24, Acts 1)

God’s timing is incredible!

This week we’re looking at the last moments Jesus spent with His disciples and the job that He gave us to do. We call this The Great Commission.

Jesus tells His disciples—“Go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you.  And be sure of this: I am with you always, even unto the ends of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)

This isn’t a request, something disciples could do when they got around to it, or felt like doing. This isn’t optional. This is a command—go and make disciples.

Jesus knew His disciples couldn’t do this job in their own strength, so He sent the Holy Spirit who gives the power to be witnesses and tell people everywhere about Him. (Acts 1:8)

If we are disciples of Jesus, then the Great Commission is for us, too. We must be making disciples and sharing the Good News. It’s a command/mission that we must be about until Jesus takes us to heaven.

PHONE WALLPAPER

Be encouraged with this new Galatians 2:20 phone wallpaper. Download it to your phone today!

When I planned our curriculum for this semester, I had no idea that God would ask me to move to another organization to share the Good News with new people in new places on the very Sunday we would be talking about this passage. Psalm 37:23 says “The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives”—even details about Kids Church lessons and real life examples of God moving in our lives for His purposes.

Thank you for allowing me to partner with you as you lead your kids to a growing relationship with Jesus. I have truly loved shepherding your kids over the past seven years. They have a special place in my heart. Although I am going to help others, “I am certain that God, who began a good work within you, will continue His work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.” (Philippians 1:6)

God’s blessings on you and your family!
