This Sunday: A Broken and Humbled Heart
This Sunday marks our final student programming Sunday of the summer. We’ll be looking at one of the most sobering moments in King David’s life—his greatest failure—when he took Bathsheba as his own and had her husband, Uriah, killed (2 Samuel 11–12). Though David sinned greatly, he responded with true repentance when confronted. He didn’t make excuses—he took responsibility and accepted the consequences.
Our students will be challenged to recognize that we all sin, and when we do, the right response is repentance. When we come to God with a humble heart, He is faithful to forgive and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Here is the Family Connection page and Devotional Guide.
Wednesday Night Hangouts
There is no programming this week, July 23, because many of us are helping all day during Kids Camp.
Next Wednesday, July 30, we will have Susie, one of our Oakwood Global Partners, with us. She will be sharing about the work that she does and how God is moving around the world.
Wednesday Night Summer Schedule
Here’s what Wednesday nights in July will look like:
- July 23 – No programming (Kid’s Camp)
- July 30 – Final Wednesday Night Hangout of the summer
In August, we will take a break from student programming to give our awesome volunteers a chance to rest and recharge. We will also be renovating the student ministry space for our relaunch in the fall.
New Monthly Calendars
New calendars for the months of July – September are available this Wednesday by the Family Life resource board, so come pick one up!
National Night Out
On Aug. 7 from 6 – 8 p.m., the Village of Hartland is hosting National Night Out at Nixon Park. Oakwood Kids and Students will have a booth at the event, and we’ll also be hosting an inflatable slide for the kids!
I'll be looking for some of our awesome students to help run the inflatable and represent Oakwood. It's a great opportunity to serve our community and have some fun! More details on timing and logistics will be shared as we get closer to the event.
Pool Party at the Anderson's!
Join us on Sunday, Aug. 17, from 5 – 8 p.m. for a pool party hosted by the Anderson family! There will be swimming, food, and plenty of fun.
Beach Party!
On Aug. 20 from 7 – 9 p.m., we’re teaming up with several youth ministries from across Lake Country to throw an epic Beach Party at City Beach in Oconomowoc!
There will be food, music, games, and a powerful time of testimony. A ton of work has already gone into making this a memorable night—so mark your calendars and don’t miss it!
Summer Picnic
Oakwood is hosting its Summer Picnic on Aug.24! There will be an outdoor worship service followed by food, fun and games.
None of this is possible without some amazing volunteers, and that is where you come in. Student Ministry is responsible for running water and carnival games. We could use some student (or parent) volunteers to help run these games. If you are interested, please reach out to me or the church office and we would love to get you plugged in.
