Kids: Week of Sept. 8, 2025

by Ashley Schmidt on September 08, 2025

Hello Fellow Oakwood Families!

Please take a minute and update your child's Annual Consent Form

Welcome, Sarah!

Hello! My name is Sarah Burbey, and I am the new Kids Ministry Coordinator! Kids Ministry during Wednesday Night Community will be my focus, along with assisting Ashley in other Kids Ministry needs.

I am married to Joe Burbey, who can be found on the worship team most weekends playing the keyboard. We have three children, Kevin (21), Mckayla (19), and Sage (11). I also live with our two crazy doodle dogs, 22 chickens, and last, but not least, our two ducks.

I went to Liberty University, for Biblical Counseling. Wherever Joe and I have lived, I have always volunteered with our home church's Kids Ministry programs. I am a firm believer of getting the truth of Jesus into youth early, so they have a firm foundation from an early age.

In my free time, I love baking and cooking. I also love doing art projects and making crafts with my girls!

I look forward to working with and getting to know the families of Oakwood!
Wednesday, Sept. 10

True North Kids Camp in July was a great success, and we are excited to continue the adventure of learning to Trust in Jesus. The next eight weeks we will continue True North themed WNC. This is open to preschool – 5th grade and is a great time to bring a friend. Preschool will take place in the preschool room while the K-5th graders begin and end in the Kids Zone. After large groups and brief “popcorn style” small group, elementary kids will divide into groups for the rotations. The gym rotation will be high energy themed games, and the activity room will be hands on experiments and crafts – all pointing back to the lesson.

The theme for the first two weeks is “When we feel alone, we can TRUST IN JESUS”

Sunday, Sept. 14

As we continue in 1 Kings, we see that the first kings of Israel led the people to disobey God and to worship idols. Israel’s kings suffered the consequences of their sin. We all sin when we disobey God and worship other things. Jesus died and rose again to pay for our sin and bring us back to God. Ask your children what are some things in their life that they put before God? How can they change that – even a little this week?

Offering Project

The fall Kids Ministry offering project will go towards Operation Christmas Child. Let’s see if kids can collect $400 to cover shipping 40 shoeboxes filled with goodies and The Good News to kids all over the world.

The Packing Party will be Wednesday, Nov. 19 from 6:30 - 8 p.m.
